ONCE UPON A TIME SUPRAVOX
|
Before the Second World War, a company called S.E.M.
(Super Electro-Mechanic) situated 26, rue Pierre Lagny
in Vincennes near Paris started producing a 4.7 inches
electro-magnet speaker to be used in radio receptors.
This company, held by Mr DORLIAC, ex mechanic engineer
onboard warships, was then specialised in high precision
metal parts.
In
the meantime in the early 30's, Mr LEGORJU created
"AUDAX" and started producing speakers in
Montreuil.
Little
time after war, Mr LIEBERT, production and R&D
manager for "S.E.M.", conceived and realised
the very first exponential cones. He then launched the
first 6.5"; 8.5"; 10"; 11"; and
13" wide range driver. According to our sources, an
American company called "UNIVERSITY" made the
only drivers capable of comparison.
The
first "S.E.M." drivers using Alnico or Ticonal
permanent magnets have been produced in the late 40's.
Mrs
DORLIAC, whom was Italian, was in touch with the owners
of the company "RADIOPHONO E ELECTROPHONO". In
1956, she registers the brand "SUPRAVOX" and
installs her factory in Paris 46, rue de Vitruve in the
ex buildings of Henry de FRANCE, inventor of the SECAM
precede. Then starts the production of speakers under
the brand "SUPRAVOX". Using the knowledge of
"S.E.M." especially in exponential cones and
high sensibility wide range transducers.
At
the same time, the company "SIARE" is created
by an ex employee of "SUPRAVOX".
In
the world, Germans prefer to use radial cones although
Americans, especially with "ALTEC" work with
exponential cones.
Between
1956 and 1960 the French trust of T.V. and radio
manufacturers called "CGTVE" and regrouping
"T.V.A.", "AMPLIX",
"TELEMASTER", "AIRPHONE"
etc…ordered most of their speakers to
"SUPRAVOX", especially the drivers equipped
with a ticonal magnet and a magnetic proof engine cap.
In
the same time, "SUPRAVOX" with 40 cabinets
equipped with the 11" drivers participates to the
acoustic insulation of the English/French supersonic
plane CONCORDE.

In 1964, the R.T.F. (French Radio &
Television) was looking for wide range speakers to equip
its studios. For this market, a 215 mm speaker was
created under the name of 215 RTF 64. This wide range
speaker and its revolutionary cone equipped the studios
of O.R.T.F.(France), R.A.I.(Italy), R.T.L.(Luxemburg),
Europe 1, and is still built for the satisfaction.

By
this period of time, Mr LEON from "ELIPSON"
created the famous "CONQUES" with or without
hear using a 215 RTF 64 with tweeter or a 215 RTF 64
double cone. These models invaded the market and are
still considered as a reference. |

|
In 1968, SUPRAVOX realises one of its first non
audiophile speaker : a 104mm speaker designed to work
from -50°c to 80°c and 92dB of efficiency. 150.000 of
those speakers will be assembled to equip emergency
transceivers on the banks of French motorways.
In 1979,
Mr GHIO, an ex engineer from "THOMSON
ELECTRONIQUE" takes the direction of SUPRAVOX after
the accidental death of Mrs DORLIAC. With a friend of
his that was carpenter, Mr GHIO, started building Hi-Fi
cabinets for audiophiles : Salon, Piccola, RV
cabinets…
|
 |
 |
In 1993, Mr
GHIO, willing to retire, clauses the company without
getting rid of his know-how.

In 1994
Guy LE CORNEC, ex sound ingineer, ex Supravox trainy
and friend of Mr GHIO decide to bet on the new start of
Supravox on the international scene.
He
satisfies Mr GHIO waitings in giving birth to the 1995
evolution of the T215RTF64.
|
|

|
Then Mr.
GHIO sells the brand in 1995 and on octobre the first
96 the SUPRAVOX company rebirth project is reality.
Taking advantage of the know how of this 50 years old
wide band speakers company and adapting it to modern
technologies and materials (permanent magnets, papers
glues...), Supravox speakers are back on the market.
First goal is to create a complete range of products
that will perpetuate the original philosophy : widest
band and highest efficiency.
|
The production line of these legendary speakers starts,
totaly hand made, in caves of Paris before settling in
the loire valley at Saint pierre des corps from 96 to
99 then today in Bléré. Every speakers is still hand
made and controled.
Today's range of wide band products is achieved as we
propose speakers from 13 to 40cm (5" to 16"
diameter).
- 135 LB
et LB-B, Æ13 cm, large bande, 95 et 94dB/W à 1m.
- 165 LB, Æ17 cm, large bande, 95 dB/W à 1m.
- 215 RTF, Æ215 mm, 98 dB/W à 1m.
- 215 RTF bicone, Æ215 mm, 98 dB/W à 1m.
